Sacred Heart Catholic Church--Paxico, Kansas

This blog post contains photographs of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paxico, Kansas (pop. 211)--just west of Topeka and three or so miles north of I-70. Click on any photograph to greatly enlarge it. You will be surprised how much more you can see when the photo is enlarged.

Above and below are the parish school, still in use if the minutes of a recent parish council meeting are any evidence. These minutes were inserted in a recent parish bulletin and also made note of a recent Chicken Dinner that raised $10,000.00. That's some eatin'.

Immediately below is a Knights of Columbus hall.

A veiled Tabenacle, beautifully drapped Altars (VP and others), all in all, I am impressed.

Seems to me we are seeing a more traditional Catholicism in these parishes you are rooting out WT. Nice work.

Chotock: I take them as I find them and try to take the best pictures I can in churches where I come unannounced and without any help from turning on the lights, etc. I know, it's weird. But somehow I love doing it, especially though when the church is traditionally Catholic and where the priest and the faithful take great care of the patrimony entrusted to them, which is most of the time.

What a lovely church! Thank you for sharing these pictures. Almost makes me want to pull up roots and move to Kansas...

Sue, its a long drive. Surely NC has its share of beautiful Catholic churches, right?

It is beautiful, and I am happy to see everything in its place (everything except for rails). I do wonder..... the expanses of egg-shell on the celings and apse wall.... maybe long ago murals painted over in a post V2 frenzy that amazingly left almost everything else in place? :)

Still, better than most churches today!

The picture of Parish religious needs to be updated? 2 young ladies of the parish have recently entered the Carmelites.
